Character Analysis
After reading Act I of Dolls House I was introduced to many new character. There's Nora, the main character of the play. She's a ravishing money spending wife, she tells little white lies that soon accumulate to one big gigantic lie. Something she thought was an innocent heroic act of love, was really an evil act of a criminal. She went to her husband, Helmer, to ask about the situation and he responded "
Many a man can retrieve his character if he owns his crime and takes the punishment." (Ibsen) That was something she was not expecting, has she really become 'corrupted' as Helmer says? From there comes he husband Helmer.
Helmer treats Nora as if she were his daughter, or even as if she were a young woman married to a rich old man, so basically a sugar daddy. He calls her names and treats her as if she's not all there. "Is it my little squirrel bustling around?" (Ibsen) He calls her a squirrel of a skylark sometimes even a featherbrain. Nora just goes along with it.
Hello. It's me.
ReplyDeleteyea okay back to what I'm supposed to be commenting on here. I agree with what you said about Helmer, he treats her like his daughter and not his wife. But to answer your question, I think Helmer is exaggerating I mean Nora did mess up, BIG TIME. But he's over exaggerating.
I feel as if Nora had the wrong idea. She was trying to do something good but in a way was bad. She should of told Helmer to settle things out with him. Instead her actions are coming back to bite her.
ReplyDeleteI agree with how Helmer treat Nora as a daughter. Also helmer was over exaggerating with how you can be corrupted by a forge signature.
